TEAM SPOTLIGHT
The flickering lantern light cast the room in shadows as the hour pushed into a new
day, even if there was no daylight yet. Master Beru looked out the window and
wished... what? That loud mouths would always die quickly? That he had some magic that
caused mouths to be sealed shut? Or perhaps that he could cause idiotic statements to
flow in one ear and out the other, at least when they hit his own hot heads.
"Are you even listening to me!?"
MB looked the young man in the face and drew in a breath. The young man took in his
own breath and Beru held up a hand to stop him.
"I am listening. I have listened. You feel aggrieved. You feel I have been too
cautious. You feel that cold steel should make your feelings known to certain members-
" catching himself and the near interruption he clearly saw, "One member of the
Killers."
"Daman, you can risen through the ranks quickly and show much promise. But we both
know that my instructors do not focus on killing blows. Perhaps I will one day bring
R.A. . to teach some of her lessons to you and yours, but that day is not now.
"Let Jarck rant and rave. He clearly has problems or the Lady would have summoned him
to the ISLE already. So he knows how to kill. So what. The days where that was
necessary outside the bloodgames have long passed."
"And so not only does he kill two of ours, but we do nothing!?"
Master Beru took in a breath and held the young man's eyes. In his mind, he counted
five things about the young warrior he appreciated and thought he could take him far.
But he kept seeing this one thing he worried about.
"We have no one I deem capable of putting Jarck in his place at this time. I am not
interested in feeding him meat with little or no hope of a victory. And I am not
interested in participating in his bloodsports."
The youth's eyes widened and his nostrils flared as he spat, "And if I am?!"
"If you are, then you will not do it with my assistance. I've sat you once for being
too distracted by this. I can sit you again, if needed."
Master Beru held his hand up to stop another interruption. "I'm done discussing this.
Take to the sands this turn, but know that I will sit you if you attempt to force a
challenge."
The youth stared at Master Beru for a few seconds which seemed like an eternity.
Finally, he spun on his heal and stormed to and through the door, attempting to slam
it after him. The animated corpse once known as Airborne Ranger caught the door and
walked in.
In his head, Master Beru heard, "You know he is going to try to find a way around your
desires."
Master Beru massaged his temples as he responded mentally as well. "Yes. Such is
youth. They are quick to feel slighted and refuse to take advice and guidance. I will
do what I can. Perhaps... Perhaps he will live long enough to learn."
In a hushed tone, AR sent, "And what of you? I know you don't like what has occurred
and not just because of me."
Master Beru looked sadly at his long time friend, "I ache for you and the others.
Death's Army was meant to prepare for facing the other threats the Lady had warned us
about. Sure, death would find some, but Jarck is a perversion. Those who like death
should be in the bloodgames. But I do not have that say so.
"So I will do what I am allowed. We will use the avoids system. We will use challenges
wisely. We may sit some of the hot heads from our stable if needed."
Airborne Ranger walked to the side of the desk, his hair lifting slightly as the
magical wind surrounded him. It kept the smells of rot and decay from finding his
friend's sensitive nose. Not that it needed to be too sensitive after this long.
Pushing the thought out, AR asked, "And as for us... You know we can not remain much
longer. Blood Poisoning's arm rotted off yesterday. Maggots were in there and had
helped the decomposition along. Our time is rapidly ending."
Master Beru nodded slowly. Speaking aloud and hoping that his friend would not hear
the full answer, he said, "This is true. The magics can only preserve for so long. I
do not have Greywand's gifts to offer. Soon our conversations will end. Soon..."
SPY REPORT
Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in
KATI-TEI. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! Say
good-bye to NAWLINS RU2, as they are pushed from the coveted top team spot by the
KILLERS stable. Coming up with a solid 2-2-0 outing, TREE OF WOE has advanced 4
places in the rankings. Hey everybody, watch out for HACHETTE, who flew up 22 points
in the rankings after mashing SLURVE like a melon. Keep your eye on this gal. And
falling like a basher in the top ten was UNDEAD CAT WOMAN, who dropped 18 points
after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with OGLCU. Well, if ya don't shows up
at the laundromat, ya can'ts wash yer clothes. GHOST PEPPER did not fight this week
so its title was forfeit. In front of all the crowds, VALERIA took the Duelmaster's
crown for hers own. I give the bum two weeks. Advice to bashers--never force
anything, just get a bigger halberd!
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!

may not be funny, but catch DEATH'S ARMY's act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to
be fairly deft at running from KILLERS. Well just about everybody wants a piece of
WINTER, who was this week's most challenged warrior.
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! Ask not the elves for counsel,
for they will say both yes and no. Silly buggers, eh?
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
